Did you have a kaleidoscope when you were young? If you did it was most likely made from plastic, cardboard or tin and was a very simple 3 mirror system with some bits of coloured plastic for the images. modern ones often use front surface mirror for exceptionally clear images. Modern ones are often made by artist from stained glass.
